About Us

The mission of The Support Team Network is to
empower and support persons living with or affected by HIV disease at The AIDS
Outpatient Clinic at UAB (called The 1917 Clinic).
We focus on three major initiatives: HIV/AIDS Preventive Education, HIV
testing, and support for persons living with HIV disease.
As we learn how to support our patients and families, we expand this
knowledge and share it with others through serving as a training and resource center
for the development of Support Teams for persons with any health concerns
and other special needs.
The Support Team Network teaches communities how to begin, train, and sustain Support Teams through a Support Team Initiative
process. The
Support Team Development Training empowers persons to become competent and confident
in beginning teams when they return to their congregation or organization.
Our philosophy is to learn together and share what we learn.
The Support Team Network is a program of The 1917 Clinic at UAB and The Center
for AIDS Research at UAB.
The Support Team Network is supported through grants and Support Team
trainings.
